US issues travel advisory against Lebanon

April 1- The US State Department has advised its citizens against travelling to Lebanon for safety and security reasons. The State Department said that while Lebanon is enjoying a period of relative calm, it continues to be a politically volatile country where “the potential for a spontaneous upsurge in violence is real. US citizens living and working in Lebanon should understand that they accept risks in remaining and should carefully consider those risks,” said the statement issued on the department’s website.
It also asked US travelers to Lebanon to be very careful especially in public places and avoid demonstrations etc. Lebanese authorities “are not able to guarantee protection for citizens or visitors … should violence erupt suddenly,” the statement said, adding that “under such circumstances, the ability of US government personnel to reach travelers or provide emergency services may at times be severely limited.”
