May 23 - The ‘Heart of Sharjah’ project received approval by the Ruler of Sharjah and the Sharjah Development and Investment Authority (SDIA) will begin work soon on the strategic plan to create the region’s biggest heritage project in the heritage area. His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah approved the ‘Heart of Sharjah’ project which was presented in detail by the Chairperson of Shurooq, Shaikha Budoor Bint, Sultan Al Qasimi.
The objective of the project is to revive the historic and heritage area, so that it shows Sharjah as it was in the 1950’s, thus creating a tourist and trade destination with contemporary artistic touches. The project will be completed in phases including ongoing development work in 2010. Shaikha Budoor explained the aim of ‘Heart of Sharjah’: “All nations hold onto their historic roots and are proud creativity and heritage, and our leadership is keen to highlight the UAE’s historic role”.
