Ascot Racecourse in England and Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority have entered a partnership including a branding agreement during the Royal Ascot thoroughbred racing event. The 300 year old, five day event starts today and this sponsorship is the first time Abu Dhabi has been directly associated with a UK horse racing event.
Under the agreement Abu Dhabi’s tourism brand will be displayed on pennants, staff jackets, race cards, and starting stalls on the second day of Royal Ascot, which is designated as Abu Dhabi Day. The £1.3-million (Dh7.8m) King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes on 25 July 2009 will be sponsored by and known as the Abu Dhabi International Handicap Stakes. Chief Executive of Ascot Racecourse said “There’s always been a close relationship between racing in the UK and Dubai because of the interest of the Royal Family in thoroughbred racing.”
