Image The Egyptian government has put a great deal of effort and money into safeguarding the city against terrorist plots. Such law enforcement has become especially rigorous after 1992, when terrorists ambushed a tourist bus and killed a British woman. Several terrorist attacks followed years later, with the last recorded terror fatality occurring in 1997 that left 60 tourists dead. Nowadays such incidents no longer occur. The government is very protective of its tourists, especially since tourism is Egypt's largest source of income. Also, keep in mind that Cairois a very cosmopolitan city and is therefore open to and welcoming of foreigners.
